Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has told Fox Sports that he thinks that Middlesbrough will win the Championship this season.
The Italian centre-back has also predicted that either Watford or Bournemouth will join them in gaining automatic qualification to the Premier League.
“This year I think that Middlesbrough (will win the Championship) because they play the best football in the Championship, while either Bournemouth or Watford will get the other spot for direct qualification to the Premier League,” Bellusci told Fox Sports before this weekend’s round of matches.
Could Giuseppe Bellusci’s prediction come true?
Following this weekend’s round of the matches in the Championship, Bournemouth, Watford and Middlesbrough are first, second and third respectively in the league table.
While the Cherries are top with 73 points from 39 matches, Watford and Middlesbrough are level on 72 points and are separated only by goal difference.
Norwich City are fourth and only three points behind leaders Bournemouth, while Derby County, who are severely out of form at the moment, are fifth and level on 67 points with Ipswich Town.
Middlesbrough will indeed be many Championship football followers’ favourites to finish in the top two, but Norwich and Watford both will fancy their chances.
Bournemouth are the surprise package of the season, and although they do not have big-name players, Eddie Howe’s side could well finish in the top two, maybe even win the Championship.
