Last season Cazorla played out wide with Ozil through the centre, but this season it is the German who has been shunted out wide.
Wright was asked by a caller on his 606 programme who he would pick, and said that while Ozil's contribution is not to be criticised, he feels Cazorla is more important to the team in the central role.
He said: "I'd go with Cazorla at the moment. People are giving Ozil a lot of stick and I feel he's doing a lot of work people are not noticing because we've got people like Santi, who's running himself into the ground, at the moment it is Santi."
It's a view Arsene Wenger clearly shares at present, as the team have been outstanding in recent games with Cazorla in a central role.
Cazorla has played twice as many Premier League and Champions League games as Ozil this season, but on a per game basis the German more than holds his own.
|Goals per game||Assists per game||Key Passes per game||Successful Final Third Passes per game||Passing Accuracy||Touches per game||Appearances|
Ozil and Cazorla have near enough exactly the same goals per game ratio, while the German edges it in terms of assists.
A club record signing from Real Madrid, Ozil creates more chances per game han the Spaniard, and makes more passes in the final third.
Cazorla narrowly shades in terms of passing accuracy and overall number of touches per game, but to Ozil's credit, he has been playing out wide in many of the matches he has played this season.
