Former Manchester United and Everton star Phil Neville is critical of Kyle Walker’s recent performances for Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Manchester United and Everton star Phil Neville has said on BBC Match of the Day that Kyle Walker’s performance levels have dropped over the last two weeks.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been a regular at right-back since his return from a long-term injury, but his overall performances have left much to be desired.

The 24-year-old right-back struggled to cope with Manchester United’s attack in the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford, and was part of a defence that conceded thrice at home to Leicester City on Saturday.

Neville was far from impressed of Walker’s displays in the two Premier League games.

“I was a little bit,” the 38-year-old told BBC Match of the Day on Saturday when asked if he was slightly alarmed by the form of his compatriot in Spurs’ 4-3 win against Leicester at White Hart Lane.

“I have watched Spurs in the last two games. They have conceded six goals, and a lot of the problems have down the right-hand side with Kyle Walker. I think it is a combination of positional play and bad concentration.”

Neville went on to explain the mistakes Walker made for the first two goals that Tottenham conceded against United, and the first and the third goals Spurs shipped in against Leicester.

“I am a big fan of Kyle Walker, but I think in the last two weeks, his levels have dropped below the standards is capable of,” added Neville.

As the following Opta Stats table shows, Walker did not have a great time in his last two Tottenham games, making just three tackles and effectively blocking only three crosses.

Despite his recent dip in form, Walker remains a capable right-back who has been called up to the recent England national team.

The Spurs defender returned from a long-term injury only in December, and perhaps he should be afforded more time and patience to get back to his best.
