Bobby Moncur has been singing the praises of Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat in The Chronicle.
The Netherlands international defender started the Premier League clash against Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Saturday and played the entire 90 minutes.
Although the Magpies lost the encounter 2-1, former Newcastle defender Moncur was impressed with the performance of Janmaat.
“There were some encouraging performances against Arsenal, not least Daryl Janmaat, who I thought did very well on Saturday,” the former Scotland international wrote in The Chronicle.
“His attitude summed it up for me and that was a very big plus to take forward. Having the right attitude is going to be important in the next few weeks.”
Janmaat did indeed give a good account of himself against Arsenal, having one shot, a pass accuracy of 73%, putting one cross, and making four interceptions, three clearances and three blocks.
The Dutchman has been in good form in recent weeks and was adjudged as the Newcastle United Player of the Month for February (click here to read more).
The 2014 summer signing has scored one goal and created 21 chances in 30 Premier League appearances so far this season, while having a pass accuracy of 75%.
Newcastle are struggling for form and results at the moment, and the players will need to step up their game like Janmaat did against Arsenal.
The Magpies have virtually nothing to play for except a top-10 finish in the Premier League, which means that Carver will need to motivate his players more.
