West Ham United could have a very youthful and impressive looking defence for next season.
West Ham United have a very big summer ahead of them, which starts with the decision of whether Sam Allardyce will still be the manager.
Whether Big Sam keeps his job or not, preparations will already be under way for the new campaign, with some key questions related to the side’s back five.
We’ve attempted to name the Hammers’ possible back five for next season.
This is a simple one for Allardyce, a caretaker boss or anyone else coming in; Adrian.
The 28-year-old has progressed well this season and has made the difference in some big games for the club.
He looks confident and should be determined to improve on a good season.
At right-back it will be interesting to see if West Ham can do a deal for Carl Jenkinson.
At the moment he’s on loan from Arsenal, but with the progression of Hector Bellerin at the Emirates and the future return of Mathieu Debuchy, it’s realistic that Arsenal could do a deal.
At left-back it’s a simple choice of keeping Aaron Cresswell in place who has been superb so far this season.
The centre backs
Winston Reid will be one of the centre backs having signed a new long term deal at the club earlier in the season.
His partner is more difficult to predict. James Tomkins and James Collins are both very good experienced options with Cheikh Kouyate also having dropped into the heart of the defence this season.
It’s an area of the squad the manager could look to bring in an extra body though that player will more than likely start down the pecking order and have to fight their way in.
Prediction: Adrian, Jenkinson, Tomkins, Reid, Cresswell
