West Brom win offers no reprieve to Pellegrini in Sack Race betting

Manchester City Etihad 2

Manchester City boss is third favourite for the chop, though West Ham United's Sam Allardyce is no longer the front-runner following win over Sunderland.

A convincing 3-0 victory over 10-man West Bromwich Albion has done little to sway the bookmakers away from the idea that Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure at Manchester City could soon be coming to an end.

The Sky Blues benefitted from a Baggies sending off just two minutes into the game and though they dominated proceedings at the Etihad, the Chilean remains under pressure.

Data compiled byOddschecker shows Pellegrini is the third-favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, with the South American available at as short a price as 7/1 to depart next.

City currently sit second in the Premier League but, with Chelsea six points clear with a game in hand, they look unlikely to retain the title they won last term.

More worrying is the fact that both Arsenal and Manchester United have closed the gap on the Etihad outfit to just one and two points respectively.

With a Manchester derby just around the corner, defeat to Louis van Gaal’s side could prove to be the final straw for those behind the scenes at the big-spending club.

Despite his recent woes, Pellegrini does remain behind two other managers in the betting.

A narrow 1-0 victory over Sunderland may only be a stay of execution for Sam Allardyce, with the West Ham manager available at around 5/1 to be the next to leave his post.

He is just behind Leicester City gaffer Nigel Pearson, who is the favourite for the chop following a spirited 4-3 defeat to Tottenham.

Pearson’s team are now seven points from safety and though they boast a game in hand on their relegation rivals, the fixture in question is against league leaders Chelsea.
