The Tottenham left-back has divided opinion this season but, with his mix of attacking prowess and... well, more attacking prowess (defensively, he has been very questionable indeed), the 24-year-old has now done enough to get into the Three Lions' squad after Luke Shaw pulled out.
Many felt Rose should have been included in Hodgson's initial squad above Shaw, anyway, but the Tottenham man has now been given his chance.
Here's how Spurs fans reacted on Twitter:
Danny rose called into England squad as Luke Shaw has put on 4 stone. Well done Danny. Should have been picked b4 Shaw anyway #thfc— Marty the Spud (@wildy412) March 21, 2015
Worrying for England when both Kyle Walker & Danny Rose are in the squad while a lot of Spurs fans would like Davies and Yedlin in for #thfc— Glen Naylor (@Glen_Naylor) March 21, 2015
Rose's gain, however, infuriated plenty of Southampton fans, who considered it very much Ryan Bertrand's loss.
Indeed, Bertrand is viewed by many as England's form left-back this season - and certainly one of the Premier League's best.
How the 25-year-old didn't get into Hodgson's squad above Tottenham's Rose, then, is beyond the comprehension of a number of Southampton supporters (and neutrals).
Their frustration was palpable on social media, with many fans backing the Saints defender and expressing their sympathy with his plight.
Here's what Southampton fans made of Hodgson's decision... Who should have got the call-up: Bertrand or Rose?
