Liverpool's players met former Brazil international Pele at the weekend.

Liverpool’s match against Manchester United did not go according to plan for the hosts, with Brendan Rodgers’ side losing 2-1.

It is a game they will want to swiftly forget, but what is likely to remain in the memories of Liverpool’s stars is something else that happened on the same day – the visit of Brazilian legend Pele.

The former striker was at Anfield as a guest of Subway – Liverpool’s official training food partner – and while things did not go well on the pitch some of the Reds’ stars were all smiles off it.

Two players who will have been particularly pleased to see Pele take in his first game at Anfield were fellow Brazilians Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva.

The duo were snapped in a picture later published by Liverpool’s official Twitter account and it is likely to be a day neither will ever forget.

While Lucas was an unused substitute against United, his Liverpool teammate Coutinho was unable to do what he has been doing increasingly as the season has gone on and change the game with a moment of magic.

There is still a lot of football to be played this season, but Liverpool will know they now cannot afford anything other than a win when they face Arsenal directly after the international break.
