A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
Manchester United will still be basking in the afterglow of their 2-1 victory against Liverpool on Sunday that saw a five-point gap open up between the two sides.
Mata shone against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and went one better at Anfield, but he has suggested his playing style has not changed.
“I am the same player I have always been, with the same passion, the same abilities and the same hunger to get better,” the United play-maker said.
“Hard work brings a reward and that has been the case this Sunday.”
Rather than letting his confidence drop after spending a spell out of the team, Mata has worked hard, kept his head up and is now reaping the rewards, as is manager Louis van Gaal.
In other news, the Daily Star reports that Juventus have not opened talks regarding the possible sale of Paul Pogba despite the former United midfielder being linked with a return to Old Trafford, with Chelsea and Manchester City also linked.
The Italian club’s general manager Giuseppe Marotta said, “It is clear that players of this quality attract interest from other clubs but we don’t seek buyers and there has been no contact.”
Pogba was a United player before moving on a free transfer under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
If the club were now to buy him back it would be both bizarre and expensive; quite simply they should have given him chances when he was there the first time round.
