After Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana pulled out of the England squad to face Lithuania and Italy, Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has handed a call-up to Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason.
Mason, 23, could be in line to win his first ever England cap after a remarkable rise to prominence under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
The central midfielder had been little more than afterthought at White Hart Lane before this season, having been farmed out on loan to Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall, Lorient and Swindon Town in recent seasons.
It seemed like only a matter of time before Mason would earn an England call-up, and now joins Tottenham team mates Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Harry Kane in the England squad for upcoming fixtures against Lithuania and Italy.
Tottenham fans took to Twitter after the announcement, and most of them were delighted to see yet another Spurs player named in Hodgson's squad.
However, some were slightly underwhelmed by England's decision to call-up Mason, whilst others were just praying that he didn't come back with an injury!
Here are some of the reactions from Spurs fans after Mason's call-up to the England squad...
We've gone from having no English players at the World Cup to having five players in the England squad in only a matter of months. #THFC— Addicted to Spurs (@AddictedtoSpurs) March 23, 2015
I feel there is a real gap for the likes of Mason in the England squad, he may not play this time, but in the future for sure #THFC— Oliver Gull (@Oliver_Gull_) March 23, 2015
As much as I'll enjoy watching them, it's a damning indictment on the standard of England squad that the likes of Mason are included #thfc— Julian Betts (@BettsJulian) March 23, 2015
Mason's rise from Tottenham obscurity may not have the same headline-grabbing effect as Kane's, but they are equally amazing. #THFC— Ryan Patrick (@RPCOYS) March 23, 2015
