Birmingham boss to run the rule over three recovered players

Gavin Gunning, Matt Green and Michael Morrison all make their comeback from injury in the reserves tonight for Birmingham City.

Michael Morrison, Gavin Gunning and Matt Green all return to match action for Birmingham City's Professional Development Squad tonight as they look to complete their respective returns from injury.

All three have been named in a 16-man squad for the game against Ipswich Town which kicks off at St Andrew's at 7pm.

While Morrison has only been out since the Sheffield Wednesday game in January, the game marks a massive step in the recoveries of Gunning and Green who have been out since August 2014 and October 2013 respectively.

Gunning has only played 38 minutes of a League Cup game in a Blues shirt before he injured his knee in a strong challenge as Cambridge United scored their equaliser.

Green has had an even more torturous spell on the sidelines damaging cruciate ligaments in training and then suffering a series of setbacks as he tried to come back from injury. It's been tough on the former Mansfield man who was playing his first season in the second tier since he was a teenager playing for Cardiff, and who has seen his chance at stepping up his professional career cruelly snatched away from him.

Blues manager Gary Rowett will be hoping all three can come through the game unscathed and with more match fitness as he looks to freshen up his team which lost in disappointing fashion against Cardiff City at the weekend. Rowett will be looking at Morrison in particular to show he can step back up to the team, with Jonathan Spector particularly culpable for goals in recent games.
