Manchester United's Spain international was in sensational form in their 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Former Chelsea and England defender Graeme Le Saux was hugely impressed by the performance of one Manchester United player in particular during their 2-1 win over Liverpool, telling NBC sports it was 'another level' to anyone else on the pitch.
The Spaniard scored both United goals in a memorable and essential Anfield win for Louis van Gaal's side, a result which went a long way towards anchoring the club's top-four ambitions as well as undermining Liverpool's own hopes.
"It’s a fantastic performance from Juan Mata today," said Le Saux. "He’s been on another level to anyone on the pitch.
"That’s only his second start in the last eight games, and he was excellent last week against Tottenham.
"Not just his goals which were tremendous, his passing and movement were excellent."
If Brendan Rodgers' side had beaten United, they would have gone one point clear of their great rivals - with the win, the Manchester club opened up a five-point gap between 4th and 5th place.
And it is pretty clear that United fans have Mata and his heroics to thank for the victory, with the Spanish international now exhibiting superb form in the club's last two games.
It is that consistency that the Red Devils have been crying out for from a man acquired in a big-money transfer back in January 2014 and they will be hoping that, having found his spark, he can now kick on towards the end of the campaign.
