We take a look at three Arsenal players who do not get as much credit as some of the headline-names.
Arsenal have a lot of players to thank for their outstanding recent form, but while Alexis Sanchez is the Hollywood signing and Olivier Giroud has been on fire in front of goal, there are three other players who deserve a huge amount of credit.
David Ospina, Francis Coquelin and Gabriel Paulista were not first-team regulars when the season began, with the Colombian goalkeeper having to wait patiently for his debut, the Frenchman way down the pecking-order and the Brazilian only arriving at the Emirates Stadium in January.
But in recent times the trio have been sensational, and they deserve plenty of credit for helping Arsenal go on a run that sees them just a point behind reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Ospina has played every minute of Arsenal’s last 10 league matches and has helped them to victory in all but one of them.
Coquelin may have tired against Newcastle United but he is the defensive midfielder the Gunners have been crying out for, and with additional support next season and beyond he could become of the club’s true greats.
And then there is Gabriel, who has only recently arrived but already looks like a solid and confident addition to Arsene Wenger’s back-line and one who could cause Per Mertesacker to sit out plenty more matches between now and the end of the campaign.
Yes, Alexis is a gem and Giroud is in great form, but without Ospina, Coquelin and Gabriel, the Gunners would not be heading into the business-end of the season with a huge amount still to play for.
