The Spanish maestro has revealed he has no intention of leaving Manchester United.
A £28 million signing from Athletic Club in La Liga, as per Sky Sports, Herrera signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford, although the start of his United career did not progress as he may have hoped.
Despite putting in top class performances whenever featured, head coach Louis van Gaal has had an apparent reluctance to feature the former Spanish youth international and he was out of the side for an extended period of time by the end of 2014.
However, since February, Herrera has found himself a key part of the side as the Red Devils have enjoyed an upturn in form and after strong performances in victories over Tottenham and Liverpool, it could be said that the midfielder is now an important player in the squad.
It represents a great turnaround for Herrera and shows a brilliant mentality, with his head refusing to drop despite being out of the starting XI, and sometimes out of the playing squad altogether.
Some players would have considered that a sign that they were not wanted by their manager, but Herrera has admitted that he never thought about leaving and revealed how long he intends to stay with United for.
Speaking to El Pais, the classy midfielder said: “I’m at Manchester United, the second highest grossing club in the world, which is in a continuous search for talent. Everything takes time because players have spurts and moments [of form].
“Now I play more, but when I did not always play I have had in mind that I have come to play for five years minimum, not just a few months.”
Considering how vital Herrera has proved to be in the last few months, United fans should be incredibly thankful that the Spaniard has committed himself to Old Trafford for at least the next five years.
