Southampton defeated Burnley 2-0 on Saturday but what did fans think of Graziano Pelle's contribution?
Southampton earned an important win against Burnley this weekend, with Shane Long and an own-goal from Jason Shackell sealing the hosts’ victory.
It was a win that saw the Saints keep in touch with the other sides competing for a top-four finish and could yet prove vital depending on how things go elsewhere between now and the end of the campaign.
But while Southampton did what they had to do, one of their players continued his own miserable run of form.
Graziano Pelle started the season on fire and looked like ending it as one of the league’s top scorers. But unfortunately for the 29-year-old, things have not gone well in recent months and he has now gone 13 consecutive league matches without finding the net.
Passing Accuracy | Shots | Shots on Target | On-target Shooting Accuracy | Mins Played | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Graziano Pellè | 59% | 6 | 1 | 17% | 90 |
Against Burnley he did his best, having six goal attempts in total, although only one of those found the target. He also managed to find a teammate with just 59 per cent of his passes.
After the game we took to Twitter to see what Southampton fans thought of Pelle’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Think any #saintsfc fans who thought Pelle had a bad game need their eyes checked. Not even 3 players all at once could get the ball off him

Words cant describe how bad i felt for Pelle today! It's just not happening for him, doesn't help when 'fans' are shouting abuse! #Plastics

Pelle is just on a run of bad luck #MOTD

As ever, when I'm at St. Mary's, the instant general hate towards Pelle when he makes his first mistake is ridiculous! #saintsfc
— Ben Stanfield (@BenStanners) March 21, 2015
@BenStanners almost like the fans want a #saintsfc player to replace the hate they had for Guly. He needs support not major criticising

After this game Pelle may as well retire now. Never seen a striker so unlucky not to score
