De Bruyne vs David Silva, do Manchester City need Wolfsburg man?

Kevin De Bruyne

The reigning Premier League champions have been linked with a move for the former Chelsea man, but do they need him?

Manchester City have identified Wolfsburg forward Kevin De Bruyne as one of their top summer targets, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The paper reports that the club will be willing to pay up to £35 million for the former Chelsea man, with director of football Txiki Begiristian at the game with Inter Milan to take a look at the player this week.

If they were to sign the Belgian, he would complement David Silva in the playmaking positions. The Spaniard is a key player at the Etihad and is enjoying a fine season as well, but he may be in need of some creative support.

We decided to compare the two players to see who comes out on top, and if Manchester City need to sign De Bruyne.

First and foremost, we’re using the statistics provided by Squawka for this analysis, and in their total score column De Bruyne comes out on top, with a score of 780 to Silva’s 745.

Elsewhere, he’s also on top, with a higher attack score, 931 to 660, although the Spaniard has managed to score more goals than De Bruyne, 11 compared to nine. The City man also comes out on top in the successful passes and key passes columns, while his possession score far outranks De Bruyne’s.

However, the Wolfsburg winger has created more chances than Silva, while he has significantly more assists than the Manchester City star, having laid on 16 goals compared to the three provided by the Etihad Stadium schemer.

Based on these stats, it seems the pair are actually quite close and perhaps Manchester City would be advised to dig deep in order to acquire another potential match-winner to supplement Silva.
