The last thing Liverpool fans will want to see after losing to Manchester United is a smiling Sir Alex Ferguson.
And, since the Scot retired, it was a sight Reds fans had yet to see at Anfield. Last season, Brendan Rodgers' side beat United home and away as Fergie watched on from the stands in frustration.
This time, however, the former Manchester United boss was all smiles as soon as he arrived at Liverpool's famous ground - as though he was never worried: always confident.
The smile didn't disappear, either, as Juan Mata's sensational double put United 2-0 up against the Reds, while Steven Gerrard was sent off only moments after being introduced following half-time.
Daniel Sturridge managed to bring Liverpool back into the encounter, with Rodgers' side suddenly finding strength and energy as if from nowhere.
It wasn't to be for the Anfield outfit, though, despite Simon Mignolet producing an impressive stop to save a late Wayne Rooney penalty.
All of the events would no doubt have pleased Sir Alex - and the man now doing his old job in Louis van Gaal.
