The 31-year-old received criticism aplenty for his display against the Gunners on Saturday afternoon.
Twitter was full of angry Newcastle United fans after John Carver's side lost 2-1 to Arsenal at St James' Park.
But not because of another horrible overall performance. The Tyneside outfit were certainly lacklustre and below par before half-time against the Gunners. After the break, though, Carver's men somehow found a new edge.
It wasn't enough to prevent yet another defeat, of course, and the anger on social media was aimed at individuals rather than the Newcastle collective. Vurnon Anita and Yoan Gouffran were two such individuals, with plenty of Newcastle fans accusing them of being far from good enough for the Premier League (one even suggested a potential struggle to get into his local pub side).
It was defender Mike Williamson, however, that incurred the most wrath on Twitter after the 2-1 loss, with the 31-year-old being slated for a 'shocking' performance. Williamson was far from at his best against Arsenal and, according to some supporters, his best is still the worst in Newcastle history.
Some have defended his recent performances on social media by suggesting he was bought to get the Magpies out of the Championship - and that it isn't his fault there aren't any defenders better than him at St James' Park.
Others, though, were less forgiving. Here's a selection of what Newcastle fans were saying after the Arsenal game...
#nufc have had some shocking centre backs over the years, Bramble & Boumsong to name 2. But Mike Williamson is by far the worst we've had.

#nufc I don't actually blame Williamson. Not his fault he's regrettably one of best 3 cbs at #nufc. Not good enough for prem

Can anyone tell me of a worse Premiership defender ever than Mike "Iron Mike for England" Williamson? No, didn't think so! #nufc

Williamson, Anita and Gouffran wouldn't get in my local pub team and they are all getting a run out for us. #NUFC

Ameobi, Williamson, Gouffran & Anita are simply not good enough for the Premier League - they prove it time & time again! #nufc

Anita is playing. Gouffran is playing. Williamson is playing. There in lies the problem #Nufc

Ameobi, Gouffran, Anita and Williamson shouldn't be anywhere near a Premiership clubs first eleven never mind be regular starters #nufc

Genuinely wince when I see Williamson, Anita and Gouffran playing football. The likes of Ayoze, Cabella and Sissoko give some hope #NUFC

Just seen the performance on #MOTD! Good 2nd half performance but Williamson, Anita & Gouffran are not Premier League quality! #NUFC
— Ross Bailey (@RBailss) March 21, 2015
Things we 'learned' today: Perez and Cabella must start every game they can. Gouffran and Williamson must be replaced immediately. #NUFC

At least we showed a bit of fight second half, still embarrassing. Way too many deadwood players like Gouffran and Williamson #NUFC

Dunno what's worse for that goal, Mike Williamson's defending of Giroud or Anita's pathetic defending of the post. #Nufc #Motd

If not for Williamson we could have won today #nufc. Loved all the pressure in the 2nd half. More of that please
