A former Leeds United favourite scored both goals in a 2-0 win for his current side this weekend.
Leeds United supporters have very fond memories of their former player Max Gradel and he clearly loved his time at Elland Road. So fans of the club may have reacted to his latest performance with a wry smile.
After all, 24 hours after Leeds could only manage a 1-1 draw with Blackpool on a pitch more fit for beach volleyball than football, Gradel scored both St Etienne’s goals in a 2-0 victory against Lille.
Gradel – who made 82 appearances for Leeds, scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists in that time – opened the scoring for the French side in the 63rd minute before doubling their advantage 11 minutes later.
The result means St Etienne now have 52 points from 30 matches and while the Ligue 1 championship looks beyond them they could still push for the top three.
Gradel has a great relationship with the Leeds fan-base and given his history and his talent they would surely love him back at Elland Road.
At 27, time is still on Gradel’s side if he does plan a return to Leeds in the future, but it may be that they will have to look back on his history at the club rather than watch him make new memories there.
Only time will tell, but he will no doubt be celebrating tonight after an individual performance to remember.
