Liverpool fans were given an untimely reminder of just how good Luis Suarez is on Sunday night when the Uruguayan netted Barcelona's El Clasico winner against Real Madrid.
Suarez's composed strike handed Luis Enrique's side a 2-1 win over their fierce rivals and sent them four points clear at the top of La Liga.
Liverpool, meanwhile, had lost by the same scoreline to their fiercest rivals Manchester United earlier on Sunday afternoon.
It seemed unfair that both events in world football had to happen on the same day - and former Anfield defender Jamie Carragher was quick to highlight the sorry state of affairs on Twitter.
Bad for Lfc with losing to Man United, Everton winning & Luis Suarez showing us what we used to have!— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) March 22, 2015
There was nothing the Reds could really have done in the summer, of course, with Suarez desperately wanting his move to Barcelona. And there was also nothing else Liverpool fans could have done except sit back in admiration as the 28-year-old settled the biggest game in club football.
Jeremy Mathieu had previously given Barcelona the lead, although Cristiano Ronaldo hit back with aplomb for Real Madrid - while Gareth Bale had another goal wrongly disallowed for offside.
It was Suarez who had the last laugh, though, leaving Liverpool fans both rueful and nostalgic on Twitter...
So it's a Suarez winner. We could have done with one of those today. #LFC— Mike (@aguyiusedtoknow) March 22, 2015
Suarez touch for the winner was a peach!!! Still gutted he's gone! #lfc— John (Wassa) Wall (@walllibs) March 22, 2015
