What a difference a week makes.
Just a few days ago, Aston Villa fans were hailing Leandro Bacuna’s performance against Sunderland, when the 23-year-old tore the Black Cats apart as a makeshift right-back, setting up two of the goals in a 4-0 victory and looking a constant threat.
But a week on from those exploits, Villa’s young Dutchman found himself on the wrong end of more than a few tweets, with the club’s supporters questioning his defensive capabilities.
There is no doubt the Villa player can bomb forward with devastating effect, but against Swansea City he was caught out time and again and his enemy on the day – Jefferson Montero – ultimately provided the ball that led to Bafetimbi Gomis’s match-winning strike.
It remains to be seen if Villa manager Tim Sherwood will persevere with Bacuna at the back or move him further forward as some fans are calling for.
After the match, we took to Twitter to see what Villa supporters thought of Bacuna’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@avfc_vilr true enough but moving Hutton to RB vs Montero better? Bacuna was toast. Still, "we go again"— Benji 17 (@benjinat17) March 22, 2015
@mattlyynch I think TS got it tactically wrong. Bacuna was there for the taking all game. AW should of replaced TC not CS— Stuart Young (@avstu) March 22, 2015
Can I just clear something up for some #avfc fans, Bacuna isn't a defender. He should not be played there. End of.— Dan Hemming (@DanHemming) March 22, 2015
Bacuna found out defensively I see ! Always going to happen ! Decent going forward but awful at defending ! #AVFC— Mr Joe (@Joe10Wilcock) March 21, 2015
@Heathy_25 So it's the CB's fault for our goal? Okay then! I could have sworn Bacuna switched off completely with a ball inside the channel— Tommy Bartlett (@tom9022) March 21, 2015
