The former West Brom loanee has been unemployed since the summer.
Back in 2012 West Brom pulled off an excellent deal to bring talented Belgian winger Yassine El Ghanassy to the club.
The mazy winger has impressed at previous club Gent and earned a Belgian cap in 2011.
The deal was a loan move, with the idea of making it permanent at the end of the 2012-13 season. However, things never really got off the ground for the talented attacker.
Things started well, he scored on debut in a 4-2 League Cup win over Yeovil Town.
But he played just two more games for West Brom, never featuring in the Premier League. His loan deal was cut short in January and he headed to Dutch side Heerenveen for the rest of the season.
In February 2013 then West Brom boss Steve Clarke explained why they let him go to the Birmingham Mail:
“He just couldn’t break into the team.
“He’s a young player who moved to another country and different team, didn’t get the chance to play and his confidence went down a little bit.
“As a winger he is a confidence player and we just felt in January, rather than keep him until the end of the season and have him miss out and not play many games, it was an opportunity for him to go and play.”
El Ghanassy struggled with his fitness and work rate in English football and was therefore a flop with The Baggies despite his obvious promise.
So, where is he now?
The Belgian went on to spend part of 2014 on loan at United Arab Emirates club Al-Ain but was released in the summer and is currently still a free agent.
He came very close to a move to a move to Kazakhstan Premier side FC Kairat Almaty at the start of the year. He agreed a two-year deal with the club, according to Het Nieuwsblad. However that deal collapsed
But later in the month RTBF confirmed that the move had collapsed over the contract demands of El Ghanassy, who is still looking for a team.
A real fall from the grace from this one time West Brom wonderkid.
