A week on from Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United their fans would have expected a response against Leicester City. But they would not have expected this.
Tottenham raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of Harry Kane but whatever Leicester manager Nigel Pearson told his players at half-time it worked, as Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan levelled things shortly after the break.
Just as at Old Trafford last Sunday, Tottenham’s defence looked all over the place but they had Kane to thank as the England under-21 international converted a penalty to restore the home side’s lead.
That was awarded after Danny Rose had been fouled in the area and when Christian Eriksen’s effort went in off Jeffrey Schlupp it looked like the match was over.
However, there was still time for Leicester striker David Nugent to score a third for the Foxes and prompt some nervy moments for the home side and their supporters.
Despite that, Tottenham held out for an important win, leaving a battling Leicester side to think what might have been.
