Many of you may play some weekend football this weekend at an amateur level. That means dads running the line, tape on goalposts and dogs running on the pitch. The pitch, if you are lucky, might not have a downhill slope.
But even a Sunday League team would think twice about playing on this pitch…
Unfortunately for Leeds United, that is exactly what they will be doing this afternoon.
That is Bloomfield Road, the home of Blackpool, the basement team in The Championship. The club is in rack and ruin and the plush pitch that Ian Holloway had his boys playing on in the Premier League has gone to pot.
Leeds have been playing some excellent football recently. Alex Mowatt, Sam Byram and Lewis Cook love spraying the ball around on the ground but today they might have to change tact.
Of course they shouldn’t have any trouble. Today is a day for Sol Bamba, Steve Morison and Scott Wootton to shine on a pitch that is, in a word, disgraceful.
Leeds fans will just hope all their players come through the game unscathed.
