Manchester United round-up: De Gea’s girlfriend’s comments will please fans

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has explained what he likes about Michael Carrick in comments published by the Manchester Evening News.

The England international recently penned a one-year contract extension and that is great news both for the club and the manager who clearly rates him very highly.

“He is also a midfielder who can play the ball forward and that I like,” the United boss said. “Our aim is always to pass the ball more forward rather than sideways or backwards. He is a player who can do that.”

He certainly is, as shown to fine effect when United defeated Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. And everyone involved with the club will be hoping that happens again when they take on Liverpool this Sunday.

In other news, the girlfriend of United goalkeeper David De Gea has given an interview where she has denied making recent comments criticising Manchester.

In the new interview she is quoted as saying, “It was an incredible revelation but I didn’t say that.

“They put words in my mouth. I haven’t said that. I am delighted with Manchester; I love it.”

De Gea’s current United contract expires in the summer of 2016 and fans will be desperate for him to sign a new one and put to bed any speculation about his long-term future.
