Celtic's Charlie Mulgrew 'gutted' to miss 4-0 win and explains what brings out the best in him

One of Celtic's stars has reflected on their recent form and their strength in depth.

Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew has been speaking to the Daily Record about missing out on recent matches against Inter Milan and Dundee United, and his hopes for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old has been side-lined with a thigh muscle injury for the last three months, but he is now approaching full fitness and he could still have a vital part to play in his side’s ongoing treble chase.

Celtic recently defeated Dundee United in the final of the Scottish League Cup before keeping their Scottish Cup hopes alive with a 4-0 win against the same opposition.

Ronny Deila’s side also took on Inter Milan in the Europa League earlier in the season, narrowly losing against the Italian giants.

Reflecting on his side’s recent exploits, Mulgrew said, “I would have loved to have been involved in the Inter Milan matches because of the history and the glamour but equally the Dundee United game because they are a good team and pose problems that need taking care of.”

“You could see on Wednesday night what it means to everyone. I was gutted to miss out.”

Mulgrew has only managed to play 18 matches this season, making it 186 matches in total for the Bhoys.

But even when he does return he knows it will not be easy to get into the team and then maintain his place.

“You know if you don’t perform there’s real class players waiting so you get the best out of yourself,” he added.
