The former Villarreal man has been added to Dunga’s Selecao squad for clashes with France and Chile.
The inclusion is the first call-up for the Gunners enforcer, who could well make his international bow before the end of the month.
The news is in recognition of good form this season for Villarreal, while Gabriel has looked solid in fleeting appearances for the Premier League club so far.
Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts on the South American’s inclusion, with contrasting views.
Most have congratulated their January signing, while with the clash against Chile set to take place at the Emirates Stadium, some are looking forward to sharing in his potential national debut.
However, with the defender just returning from a hamstring injury, some of the Emirates Stadium faithful are concerned that more games could well be a bad thing for Gabriel, who is set to play a considerable role in the North London club’s search for top-four football.
Here are the best tweets from the Arsenal fans.
