Tottenham's Kyle Walker tweets delight at England call, fans reply and slate him

Tottenham Hotspur's Kyle Walker was a controversial inclusion in the England squad.

Harry Kane's inclusion in the England squad was predictable for all the right reasons, a high profile player in form, deserving of the honour. Kyle Walker's case was the opposite.

The right-back's call-up was an example of a player whose previous reputation and experience has led to his inclusion, rather than his current performances.

After looking shaky during a crucial month of key matches for Spurs, Walker had a disastrous performance away at Manchester United at the weekend, losing possession 26 times during the 3-0 loss, and 27 times a week earlier against QPR.

The 24-year-old was nonetheless delighted with the call-up after missing the previous qualifiers with injuries, and to get a chance to add to his 10 senior England caps. Walker it should not be forgotten missed the World Cup through injury too.

He sent a message out via Twitter congratulating teammate Harry Kane on his call-up, and expressing personal satisfaction.

The reaction to his tweet was less than welcome however, with Walker seen as one of the more bemusing choices by Roy Hodgson, along with teammate Andros Townsend.

He received dozens of replies, some too rude to be published, but here is a selection below...
