Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has taken to social networking site Twitter to show his appreciation for Club Brugge, who progressed to the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday.
The Belgian outfit came from behind to get the better of Besiktas in the round of 16 of the prestigious European competition.
Brugge won the first leg 2-1 in Belgium and the second leg 3-1 in Istanbul to win the tie 5-2 on aggregate.
Michel Preud’homme’s side had to do it the hard way, though, as they went 1-0 behind in the opening minutes of the second half in the second leg at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on Thursday.
Tom De Sutter restored parity for the visitors just past the hour mark, and Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo scored twice late on to see Brugge through to the quarter-final stage.
Belgium international Vertonghen was following the game, and the Tottenham star was delighted to see Brugge advance further in the Europa League.
Tottenham themselves featured in the Europa League, but they failed to make it past the round of 32.
The Premier League outfit lost the tie 3-1 on aggregate to Italian club Fiorentina, who secured their place in the quarter-finals at the expense of AS Roma on Thursday.
