Southampton's Toby Alderweireld is determined to help the side finish the campaign strongly.

Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld has outlined his desire to achieve something special this season on the club's official website.

The Saints are currently stationed in the upper echelons of the Premier League table and Alderweireld is determined to ensure that they make it over the line and into Europe.

The Belgian defender says that the side have had a great season so far, but he wants to make sure they finish strongly to make it an even more memorable campaign.

“We want to achieve something good, something special this season, so we have to win. That’s game by game," he said.

“We really want to achieve something very special for Southampton. We have nine games, nine finals; we have very tough games left."

Southampton's form of late has not been up to scratch and they have slipped down the table slightly as a result.

Ronald Koeman's side have struggled for goals and it has meant they are now six points behind the top four.

Bridging that gap could be a tough ask, but their display against Chelsea has reminded everyone of the quality that they posses.

Southampton claimed a point at Stamford Bridge in their most recent fixture with an excellent showing and they will be looking to build on the momentum they gained from that performance this weekend when they take on Burnley.

Sean Dyche's men will travel to St. Mary's desperate for three points to strengthen their own survival bid, but it appears a good chance for Southampton to pick up a victory and further establish their place amongst the Premier League's elite.
