Russell Crowe comments on Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, says he put a rocket up his backside

Russell Crowe is impressed with the start Massimo Cellino has made as Leeds United owner.

Hollywood actor Russell Crowe has praised the start Massimo Cellino has made during his eventful first year as owner of Leeds United.

Crowe is quoted in The Mail from an upcoming ITV interview to be screened next week, and says that the first full season of Cellino's tenure can be put down as a success.

The film star said that despite the positive strides, he wants far more from the Italian if Leeds are to regain promotion to the Premier League.

He said: "Massimo Cellino, he seems like a guy who, the first set of ideas that he has applied, they're good, they're solid.

"You can see that there is some movement forward but I'm like the rest of the grassroots of Leeds fans mate. Come on!"

Cellino has had a controversial first year, even being banned by the Football League, and has got decisions wrong, but while he deserves flak for appointing Darko Milanic, results now suggest he should also get credit for his much-derided decision to fire him quickly and make Neil Redfearn permanent head coach.

Crowe is aware he could clash with Cellino should he pursue his speculated desire to invest in the club, and he is fully aware his recent comments have been a wake up call to the club's board even though he did not mean to do so deliberately.

He added: "I don't want to put any pressure on the current administration, I never sort of said that to put a rocket up their backside but I think it worked anyway but that wasn't intentional and it's not for sale at this point in time."

Most intriguingly, when pressed as to whether he would act if he was told the club was for sale, he responded: "Well let's just see how it goes."
