Report: Hammers to beat Spurs in race for Premier League striker's signature

West Ham United are reported to be ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in the race for Manchester United's Javier Hernandez.

West Ham United are leading the race to sign Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, according to a report in the Daily Star.

The Hammers are competing with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton for the Mexican striker, but it seems that they are set to come out on top.

West Ham have apparently already made contact with Hernandez's representatives and, as a result, they have jumped to the front of the queue for his signature.

The United man is up for sale this summer, with his contract expiring in 2016, and he is expected to be available at a cut-price.

Would he be a good addition for West Ham?

Hernandez may not have been in his best form over recent years, but there can be no doubting that he would be a quality addition for West Ham.

At the moment West Ham have Diafra Sakho, Mauro Zarate, Carlton Cole and Enner Valencia on their books, but they should be looking to add another quality front-man to increase competition for places.

Hernandez has shown before that he can be a quality player in the Premier League and his finishing ability would be welcome at the Boleyn Ground.

If he is available on an affordable deal, then his transfer looks one which would be a very intelligent move for the Hammers and it should create a great deal of excitement at the club.
