He showed his affiliation to the club’s youth ranks, watching the under-21 side earlier this week and received an exciting phone call after the game.
“I went to watch Derby’s Under 21s against Middlesbrough last night and on the way back home I had a call from Lee Glover,” he said.
“I had been called up to the England Under 20s squad, I didn’t know what to say – I was in shock.”
It’s a great piece of news for him personally and also has positive repercussions for Derby as a club.
On a personal level, he can use the call-up to inspire himself and to push hard in the Derby first team to become a better player.
His character will grow immensely if he can play and do well during a difficult period of the season where the Rams are chasing promotion.
At club level, it’s proof that what Derby are doing with their youngsters and the way they are developing is working.
Derby can use his example to show other youngsters that if they work hard enough they will get a first team chance and the positive things that come along with that.
