Roberto Martinez pitchside for Everton

Antolin Alcaraz and Everton had a night to forget in the Europa League.

Everton's 2014/15 has been a huge step back, but the one shining light had been their Europa League adventure.

The club's form had been impressive in the competition, unlike their inconsistent Premier League performances, which had finally been improving over the last month.

And then last night it all came crashing down. They blew a 2-1 first leg lead, defeated 5-2 in a terrible performance in Ukraine in which they were second best throughout.

There were no standout performances from a positive perspective, with players letting themselves down all over the pitch. One particularly dismal performer however was Antolin Alcaraz.

Alcaraz was at Wigan with boss Roberto Martinez, but has failed to convince Everton fans he is up to the standard required, and last night was a real low point.

While not helped by an inept performance from Phil Jagielka either, Alcaraz himself completed just 63 per cent of his passes, and made no successful tackles. A scant one interception was barely anything to give him credit for.

Angry and upset Everton fans ripped his display apart via social media, with comments even describing him as the worst player ever to feature for the club. Here is a look at the reaction...
