Celtic manager Ronny Deila has been quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times suggesting Craig Gordon could well be the best signing he’s made since he’s been at the club.
Gordon has been in fine form at the back of Celtic’s team showing experience and grit, which has made it difficult for the Bhoys’ opponents to get on the score sheet in big games against the club.
“I am so pleased for Craig. He has been a scoop for us, no question about it. I am delighted he is here and performing at the level he is,” said Deila.
“We have been good for him and him for us. We want to keep him here at the club for a long time.”
Gordon linked up with the club last July and has quickly established himself as a capable number one after Fraser Forster left for Southampton.
He’s joined a side where there is real pressure and expectation across all competitions and he’s embraced the responsibility brilliantly.
Weaker individuals may have become intimidated by their role under Deila and the expectation from Celtic fans, but Gordon has embraced it.
He may have arrived at the club feeling as though he had a point to prove looking ahead to a very long season and if that was the case, he certainly has.
He’s very effective in terms of keeping the Celtic defence organised and showing the intelligence to get messages forward when he can see things developing that he doesn’t like.
If he maintains that ability and is consistent with the way he makes good saves from difficult positions, Celtic will be in a good position.
