Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has told The Daily Star that he made contact with Gus Poyet following his sacking by Sunderland.
“Obviously I spoke to him immediately after the game and then I sent him a text when I heard the news,” Sherwood told The Daily Star.
“I just said something like ‘onward and upwards – go and do it somewhere else now!’ And I’m sure he will do that.”
Sherwood and Poyet know each from their days at Tottenham, and it seems that they have maintained a good relationship with each other.
The Englishman knows perfectly how it feels like to be sacked, having been dismissed by Tottenham at the end of last season.
Poyet is a very good manager who showed last season that he is someone who can keep a club up in the Premier League.
The Uruguayan made sure that the Black Cats did not go down to the Championship at the end of last season.
Although results and performances have been disappointing this campaign, it must be worth noting that Sunderland are a point above the relegation zone and not among the bottom three.
