The Italian international is said to have caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino.
In recent months Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with the signature of emerging Italian striker Simone Zaza. The Sassuolo striker was linked with the move by The Express back in January, with a reported fee of £11 million mooted.
However this week it appeared that Tottenham had missed out on the player. Many reports, including one from The Mirror, suggested that Zaza had finally decided to join Italian giants Juventus in the summer.
He is a former Juve talent and the club have a buyback option in his Sassuolo deal, so any move for him would be easy for Old Lady.
But while it seems to be done and dusted, his agent disagrees.
In quotes from Football Italia it appears that Christian Maifredi is suggesting no deal for Zaza to go anywhere is currently in place:
“I honestly don’t know anything about these things I read.
“I don’t know anything about meetings, contracts or any situations regarding Simone. What has been written is not true.
“Until June 30, 2019, he’s a Sassuolo player, we’ll have to see if there are negotiations in the summer. At the moment there’s nothing.”
This is of course great news for Tottenham, as it looked like a summer target was already set to slip through their fingers.
Zaza, who is 23-years-old, has scored nine goals in 26 games for club and country this season and is considered one of Italy’s top striking talents.
