Tottenham Hotspur fans react on Twitter to Andros Townsend's England call-up

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend is part of the next England senior squad.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend has been recalled to the England senior side as confirmed by England manager Roy Hodgson earlier today.

The Tottenham man has struggled at times on the left of Mauricio Pochettino’s attack, but he appears to have done enough to show Hodgson that he can still be part of the international setup

If he can have an impact in the England side, his stock is going to rise at White Hart Lane and it could help him to rediscover his best form at club level.

The challenge for Townsend is going to be how he deals with the extra pressure and scrutiny of representing the senior side of his country.

He’s played well previously wearing the Three Lions shirt but it could be difficult for him, as the media pressure and criticism from all sets of fans is going to be intense over the next two games.

He’ll also have to deal with criticism from supporters of clubs who have players they feel also deserve to be called up.

From Tottenham’s point of view, they’re going to have to handle how he’s managed carefully considering the extra games he will now be playing.

However, one of the main benefits is that he’ll be playing with a greater variety of players and against some of the best defences in the world.

That should help raise his performance levels and ensure that he becomes a more effective and better all round striker over the course of the next few games England play.

It will be interesting to see if he’s thrown straight into the team by Hodgson for the next game or whether he’s held back with Hodgson potentially favouring other midfield options ahead of him, over going with a setup which includes Townsend as a winger down either side.

Here’s what Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have had to say about his call-up.
