According to the Guardian, Arsenal could make a move for Southampton attacker Sadio Mane if ‘contract rebel’ Theo Walcott decides to leave in the summer.
The report states: “Arsenal will console themselves by luring Southampton’s Sadio Mane to north London, on the assumption that contract rebel Theo Walcott is going to do one.”
The 22-year-old, who has played in almost every attacking position for the Saints this season, has hit the ground running in the Premier League and has scored six goals in 21 games for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Arsene Wenger will no doubt be largely interested in the player due to his versatility, but it seems unlikely that any approach for the player will be made unless Walcott is moved on.
Are Arsenal in danger of losing Theo Walcott?
Talk over Walcott leaving Arsenal seems premature as the summer will perhaps give a better indication of both the player and the club’s feelings towards the situation.
The England international can be as good as anybody else for the Gunners when fit, but that is the 26-year-old’s biggest problem.
Over the past two seasons, the forward has spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch and that will be Wenger’s biggest concern.
If the England star can keep up his fitness and form until the end of the season then it may force Arsenal’s hand into a new deal. However, if he is still on his current deal heading into next season, then his future could be up for debate.
