Merson: Tottenham will lose to Leicester this weekend, says Kane could let them down

Leicester City

Paul Merson says he is not just tipping Tottenham to lose to Leicester because he is a former Arsenal player.

SkySports pundit Paul Merson says he expects relegation battlers Leicester City to spring an upset against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The former Arsenal midfielder says part of his prediction is based on the Foxes defeating Spurs them at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup in January, but went onto detail more reasoning, predicting a 2-1 win for Nigel Pearson's side.

He said in his weekly SkySports predictions column: "People are going to think that it’s my Arsenal connections as I am going to go for a Leicester win here. Spurs were poor last week at United and Harry Kane has just been called up by England. And that may mean him subconsciously not wanting to get injured

"Leicester have to win this game and while they were also poor last week at home to Hull, I think Tottenham will come on to them and the visitors’ pace in attack with Andrej Kramaric – who I like a lot – and Jeffrey Schlupp could hurt them."

Do Leicester have a chance?

In terms of the Premier League table, this is seventh place versus 20th. Both sides need wins, and for very different reasons.

Spurs suffered a woeful 3-0 loss at Manchester United last weekend, to leave them six points off the Champions League places. Leicester's draw with Hull was a disappointing missed chance for them to pick up a win, and currently sit bottom of the league, seven points from safety.

Leicester have not won a game since their FA Cup win against Spurs in late January, and in the Premier League their previous victory was eight matches ago against Aston Villa.

Tottenham have won six of their last 10 league games, and will be out to prove a point against Leicester, and crucially they won't have Michel Vorm in goal this weekend, whose error gifted the struggling side victory in their cup clash.

As for Merson's prediction that Kane may be playing without full intensity, it just does not sound like an accusation which can be levelled at a player who performs in such a committed way week in and week out.
