Ryan McGowan was sent off for a tackle on Celtic's Liam Henderson.
Dundee United's Ryan McGowan was sent off late on in last night's Scottish Cup quarter-final replay against Celtic.
The Australian's late tackle on Liam Henderson caused outrage among the Celtic players and the bench, but he maintains it was a fair challenge.
McGowan used his Twitter page to reach out to Henderson, but the apology was half-hearted as he was adamant he did not deserve to receive a red card.
Disappointing result! Fans were terrific again!Apologise to Liam if caught him but I'm sure got the ball first! Congratulations to Celtic— Ryan McGowan (@rmcgowan89) March 18, 2015
McGowan's challenge was condemned by Celtic boss Ronny Deila, as reported by the Daily Record, who labelled the tackle as a potentially career ending one.
Dundee assistant boss Simon Donnelly did not share the same view, insisting that the reaction of the Celtic players contributed to the referee's decision, per The BBC.
He now stands to be suspended for the league clash between the two sides this weekend, as does Celtic's Anthony Stokes, who was dismissed moments earlier for an altercation with United's Paul Paton.
