Leeds boss Redfearn comments on Antenucci and mid-season signing after goals

Mirco Antenucci

Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has praised Mirco Antenucci and Sol Bamba.

Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn was delighted to see Mirco Antenucci come off the bench to score against Fulham.

The Italian striker netted the third goal in the final minutes, to cap off a dominant second half display from the visitors.

Antenucci has not started a game in 2015, despite currently being the club's top scorer with nine goals to his name.

Redfearn brought him on to play out wide, on for Alex Mowatt, and he feels the forward is finally buying into his tactical approach and doing as he asks in the position, hinting that perhaps previously he struggled with it.

He told LUTV: "I'm pleased for Mirco tonight. He's come on and got his goal. I've told him he has to play in different positions for us because we play differently. We play one up front, we attack from wide, we play with one behind the front, and he's getting his head round that now.

"He come on tonight and he buzzed about busy and bright and he took his goal really well, and if we can get everybody pulling in same direction, understanding the shape we've got and the way we are playing then they're all assets."

The head coach also reserved praise for defender Sol Bamba, who scored his first goal for the club after his mid-season loan switch from Palermo. Redfearn acknowledged it could so easily have come before now, and was pleased for the Ivorian centre back.

He added: "I'm pleased for him. He's been outstanding since he's come. He's been a real plus and gives us physical presence and pace."

The victory took Leeds up to 12th in the table, while Fulham are down in 21st, one place above the Championship relegation zone.
