Newcastle United boss John Carver has provided a positive injury update on Siem De Jong at his press conference on Thursday.
De Jong has been out since September, but it seems the Dutchman may finally be returning to fitness.
The summer signing has missed most of the season after picking up a knee injury at the start of the campaign and then finding his comeback from that problem halted by a punctured lung.
It has been a frustrating time for De Jong, but things are starting to look up for the forward judging by Carver’s comments.
JC: "Siem de Jong went outside for the first time today and did a little work-out and that was nice to see." #NUFC— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) March 19, 2015
There was not such positive news for the club's youngsters at Carver's press conference, though.
Newcastle may be suffering an injury crisis at the moment, but he still insists that it is not the right time for unproven players to be thrust into the first-team.
JC: "I only have 13 fit senior players, plus two goalkeepers, for Saturday's game." #NUFC— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) March 19, 2015
JC: "Saturday is not the environment for young lads, especially against an in-form Arsenal side. It's not the right time for them." #NUFC— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) March 19, 2015
The likes of Callum Roberts and Adam Armstrong would both have been hoping to earn an opportunity against Arsenal in Premier League competition this weekend, but it seems that they will remain on the sidelines for the time being.
