Keown is backing Dier to outdo the likes of Calum Chambers and John Stones.
Roy Hodgson’s latest England squad is announced later today, with once again the onus set to be on youth.
Harry Kane is expected to get a call-up while rumours of Ryan Mason and James Ward-Prowse are also doing the rounds.
Another area of the team where young players will be present is at the back. The likes of John Stones, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers have recently been in the England team.
However, one Arsenal legend believes that it is a young Tottenham defender who leads the way.
The player in question is Eric Dier.
Keown told the Daily Star last night:
"There is lots of talk about Calum Chambers at Arsenal. But Tottenham have got Eric Dier, who I think is a great player.
"Spurs have played him at right back at times but he's a centre-half all day long for me. He could end up being the best of the bunch.
"There are others as well like John Stones at Everton. But I think Dier could end up being better than all of them.
"There's a good centre-half emerging there. He looks more comfortable playing there than at right back."
Dier has recently usurped Federico Fazio as the number one partner for Belgian Jan Vertonghen at White Hart Lane.
He has put in some excellent performances of late, although the recent match with Manchester United will be one he wants to forget in a hurry.
Overall he has impressed in his 27 appearances this season since arriving in the summer from Sporting Lisbon. Now he will be hoping to continue impressing at club level so that he can also join the new ranks of the England football team.
