Tottenham and Liverpool stars feature in football's Top 5 Awkward Moments

Cesc Fabregas Barcelona

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool stars feature.

The unpredictable nature of football is part of why we love it, unless of course your team happens to be on the end of a shock defeat.

As well as results, there are individual moments or career changing decisions which so often come back to bite players, or off-the field scenarios which leave them feeling silly.

With today unofficially Awkward Moments Day, we have put together a 'top five' list of the football occasions which fit the billing...

Luke Shaw hits back

Soon after his move to Manchester United, Luke Shaw was hit by injury, and still has not sewn up his place as a must-start for Louis van Gaal. So you can see why he was annoyed when a national newspaper printed a story criticising him for a night on the town, only for him to reach out to them via Twitter and shoot it down.

Harry Kane is revealed as a Gooner

Harry Kane is lauded by Tottenham fans as one of their own, but we aren't so sure. After pictures of him training with Arsenal as a youngster emerged, Kane was able to play those down, after all, it was an attempt to establish a career. But these celebrating the Gunners' trophy win back in 2004? He is yet to comment...

Monaco are easy, right?

Piers Morgan is always putting his foot in it, and this is just the latest message to come back and haunt him. Previously, as reported by The Telegraph, he hit out at Aaron Ramsey as undeserving of an Arsenal contract - only to see him become their star player and hit the awkward goal in the FA Cup. Now his message about Monaco being an easy draw has come back to bite him, with Arsenal KO'd this week.

Cesc Fabregas: Always a Gunner

When Cesc Fabregas visits later The Emirates this season, it won't be as a returning hero. Leaving for boyhood club Barcelona was disappointing but understandable for Arsenal fans, but rejoining rivals Chelsea? Unforgivable. Just ask Ashley Cole. The fact he pledged lifetime allegiance to the Gunners only makes it look worse...

Gerrard with his trophies

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was perhaps just one fateful slip away from winning a Premier League title last season, now he looks destined to never get his hands on the trophy. He did manage to grasp one league title though, the old First Division title won by Everton, when he was just a kid. Awkward.
