Report: Italian Serie B outfit Bologna aim to win Sami Khedira race

Sami Khedira warming up

The Italian side are set to launch an ambitious bid to sign Sami Khedira.

The future of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is becoming an increasingly complicated and protracted drama. The German World Cup winner has struggled for first-team football at Real Madrid this season and has continued to battle a serious knee injury.

It is well known that the German's contract expires in the summer, making him one of the most eligible bachelors on the free agent market.

In the Premier League, that has seen Arsenal constantly linked with his signature. In the latest such link, the Guardian reported that Arsenal were in 'hot pursuit' of the player.

With Real Madrid recently signing Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro, Khedira's future at the club certainly looks bleak. Arsenal fans who would like to see him arrive are now begging Arsene Wenger to make a move. Other Arsenal fans feel he is a fading light, whose injury worries should see a move for him avoided.

It seems the dilly-dallying of the big teams in an approach for Khedira has seen some plucky outsiders decide they will chance their arm in the summer.

The latest side said to be keen are an Italian outfit. Not Juventus, not AC Milan, not Inter, or Roma, or Lazio or even Fiorentina. No, it is Bologna who are going in for him.

A report in Tutto Mercato Web states that Bologna, who currently play in Serie B, are keen to snap him up as a marquee signature.

The club, who are battling for promotion to Serie A, would like to sign him if they earn their place back among Italy’s elite.

Of course any deal seems highly unlikely. The German is looking for a move to one of Europe’s big clubs and his wage demands would likely dwarf the entire Bologna’s squad’s weekly salary.

But you can’t blame them for being ambitious.
