Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has offered up some transfer advice for Arsene Wenger.
Parlour suggested that the Saints star would be the perfect addition to Arsenal’s midfield, slotting in to provide extra cover in front of the defence.
“If he’s available, at the end of the season, he would be perfect,” said Parlour.
“He’s a bit like Gilberto Silva was at Arsenal, he sits back in front of the back four so when it’s wide, he makes another centre half – He’s so comfortable on the ball.”
Parlour’s comments are interesting considering the impressive impact Francis Coquelin has had since he was recalled from a loan spell at Charlton by the manager earlier in the season.
Coquelin has proven in games against Manchester City and Manchester United since the turn of the year that he can provide that aggressive edge in front of the defence.
Schneiderlin may be a more refined player and is arguably better suited to moving the ball forward quickly in terms of the silky way that Arsene Wenger likes his teams to play.
The problem that Arsenal face if they do want to try and sign him this summer is that the Saints are under no obligation to sell and have had that not for sale sign around his neck for most of the season.
Arsenal are in control in terms of qualifying for the Champions League next season and that will be a big pulling factor in their favour, if the Saints can’t force their way into at least fourth place before the end of the season.
It will be interesting to see if Wenger goes after the talented Frenchman.
