Manchester United morning news: Gundogan latest; reported twist in Bale pursuit

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United have once again been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Sport Witness has published a story from the paper copy of German publication Sport Bild, in which it is claimed Louis van Gaal’s side have reignited their interested in the star following his return from injury.

There is no doubt United need more quality in central areas and a fit and firing Gundogan would certainly bring that.

The report goes on to claim that Dortmund remain confident the player will sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2016. But until he does so expect the rumours to continue.

In other news, the Daily Star claims United could use goalkeeper David de Gea as part of a deal to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford.

The Welshman is allegedly a main target for van Gaal and it is being claimed De Gea – whose own contract at United expires in 2016 – could be used as part of the package.

Considering the Spaniard’s importance to United it remains to be seen how much truth – if any – there is to the latest report.
