Liverpool legend Didi Hamann believes there is something which can be read into his old side's current league position.
Hamann suggested that Liverpool’s current position just outside the top four, shows they could have enjoyed an extremely successful season if they hadn’t endured inconsistency over the first half of the season.
“What the table shows about Liverpool is how well they have played since the turn of the year,” said Hamann.
“Had they not struggled over the first half of the season, they would be in a fantastic position.”
Liverpool initially struggled to get their teeth into the current campaign. They were superb last season, but side’s wised up to how they were playing and developed tactics to mute their key players.
It took manager Brendan Rodgers a couple of months before he started to make subtle changes to his team, eventually settling on the current 3-4-3 formation which has been so effective.
Liverpool very nearly won the title last season and had they not suffered inconsistency through the early part of the season, they could well have been in with a shout of the league right now.
However, things didn’t pan out as the side would have been hoping and the aim is now to secure a top four place, with potential FA Cup success also on the cards.
