Photos: Manchester City suffer UEFA Youth League defeat

Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by AS Roma in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League, ending the excellent journey for Patrick Vieira's side.

On Tuesday afternoon, Manchester City’s Under-19 squad, led by Patrick Vieira, were beaten 2-1 by Italian side AS Roma and eliminated from the UEFA Youth League.

It was a tough loss, but an action-packed second half saw both sides receive red cards and Roma score twice. Man City’s Thierry Ambrose scored a late penalty, but despite the referee adding six minutes of injury time, the English team couldn’t find an equaliser.

The script was written and it was the ironically named Lorenzo Pellegrini who scored a stunning late solo strike to ultimately knock Vieira’s side out of the competition.

After eliminating Ajax in the last 16, Roma upset the odds to beat the side that got the better of them twice in the group stage this season and now they will face Chelsea in the semi-finals.

It wasn’t meant to be for the young City side, but there is a lot of exciting promise in the side. Often you learn more in defeat than in continuously coming out victorious. It is all about the experience and development.

Here are some of the best pictures from Roma’s win over Manchester City in Latina.
